Choosing what to wear for your photoshoot can feel overwhelming but it really doesn’t have to be.
The goal isn’t to look “perfect.” It’s to feel like you just a slightly elevated, more intentional version.
Start with colours. Soft, neutral tones always photograph beautifully think creams, beige, soft blues, earthy greens, warm browns. These tones work especially well in natural settings like the beach or forest and help keep the focus on your connection rather than your clothing. Avoid anything too bold, neon, or heavily patterned, as these can be distracting in photos.
Next, think about coordination rather than matching. You don’t need everyone in the same outfit in fact, it’s better if you’re not. Choose a colour palette and mix tones and textures within it. For example, mum in a flowy neutral dress, dad in a linen shirt, kids in soft, complementary colours. This creates a cohesive look without feeling forced.
Texture is your best friend. Linen, knits, cotton, flowy fabrics these add depth and movement to your images. Dresses that catch the wind or layers that move naturally can make such a difference.
Comfort matters more than anything. If you’re constantly adjusting your outfit or your child hates what they’re wearing, it will show. Choose pieces that feel good to wear and allow you to move, sit, cuddle, and play.
And finally, don’t overthink it. When you book with me, you’ll receive a styling guide filled with outfit suggestions and colour palettes to help make choosing what to wear easy and stress-free. I’m always here to guide you too, and you’re more than welcome to send through outfit options before your session. The most important thing you can wear is confidence and connection.
