Let’s be honest when kids are involved, things don’t always go to plan. And that’s completely okay.
The best sessions happen when there’s no pressure on your children to behave perfectly.
Instead of telling them they need to smile or sit nicely, keep things relaxed. Let them know you’re going somewhere fun as a family a walk on the beach, an adventure in the forest. The less pressure, the better.
Make sure they’re well-rested and have eaten beforehand. Tired or hungry kids will always find it harder to settle, so this small step can make a big difference.
Bringing along a favourite snack or drink is always a good idea and yes, bribery is absolutely allowed if needed. A favourite toy or comfort item can also help younger children feel more at ease.
Try not to stress if your child is shy, energetic, or not interested at first. I work with children exactly as they are. Some take time to warm up, some run around the entire session both are completely normal, and both create beautiful, real moments.
The biggest thing? Trust the process.
Some of the most loved images come from the unplanned moments the giggles, the cuddles, even the chaos. Your job is simply to be present with your kids. I’ll take care of the rest.
