Whether you're celebrating a birthday, baby shower, engagement, anniversary, graduation, corporate event, or another special occasion, having your event professionally photographed allows you to be fully present while knowing the memories are being preserved.
One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give anyone booking event photography is this: make a list of the photos you really want captured.
Every photographer documents events slightly differently. Some naturally focus on candid moments, while others may capture more of the details or formal group photos. By sharing what matters most to you before the event, I can make sure I prioritise the moments that are most important to your family.
Your photo list doesn't need to be complicated. It can include things like:
* Decorations and venue details before guests arrive
* Food, cake, gifts, or special keepsakes
* Family group photos
* Photos with specific friends or relatives
* Candid interactions between guests
* Speeches or presentations
* Games and activities
* Cake cutting or other milestone moments
* Individual portraits
* Wide shots showing the atmosphere of the event
I also recommend letting me know about any moments that might not be obvious. Perhaps a surprise gift is being presented, a special performance has been planned, or there's a meaningful family tradition taking place. The more I know beforehand, the better prepared I can be to capture it.
If your event has a schedule or timeline, sending that through before the day is incredibly helpful too. It allows me to anticipate important moments and be in the right place before they happen, rather than reacting once they've already started.
On the day itself, my goal is to blend into the background as much as possible. I'll capture genuine interactions, laughter, conversations, and all the little moments happening naturally throughout the event, while also making sure we tick off the important photos you've requested.
At the end of the day, every event is different because every celebration is unique. Working together before your event ensures your gallery reflects exactly what mattered most to you, creating memories you'll be able to look back on for years to come.
